Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)
Hoping on the late train with this song, I know. The video sure is pretty and Rihanna is, as always, a visual delight. I’m a little disappointed with all the obvious Tim Walker visual signatures that are in it despite him not being actually involved or credited.
This video really is gorgeous, but the more I think about it the more it upsets me that Anthony Mandler so blatantly ripped off Tim Walker’s gorgeous Dress Lamp Tree image at the end of the video. The saturation, the balloons, just the whole romantic pastel world - it’s all Walker & no mention is made to him as an inspiration. Rihanna already got into trouble with David LaChapelle after the director of her S&M video blatantly stole from LaChapelle’s images. I like Mandler too, he’s directed some great videos, but c’mon! At least cite your inspirations.
