You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away — The Beatles
a lot of people think this song was about lennon’s gay love for brian epstein; perhaps. anywho, it’s really dylan-eque and fucking awesome, one of my favs, love the video for it too.
I cannot get this song out of my head lately. I listen to it & try to listen to something else, but find myself returning. I love the way John’s voice sounds. It soothes me.

A Toast To Halloween
Here’s to the season of the year
When black cats run and witches ride;
Here’s to the season we hold dear
When wisdom’s mask is laid aside,
And in its stead gay jollity
Rides broomsticks over land and sea.
Other poem titles: How Pumpkin-Wee Saw the King, Halloween’s For Boys, Spooky and Pumpkin Pie & Jack-O’-Lantern Advice.

Here’s an excerpt from the Novelties section:
My Halloween Mask
I’ve made a Halloween mask
With jagged teeth and ugly eyes;
I’ll tell you what I play to do
But sh! It’s to be a surprise.
I’ll sneak behind Betty Jane
And then behind Sally, too;
I know they’ll all be scared to death
When I hold this up and yell, “Boo!”
[Child holds mask in his hand. As he recites last line, he places it over his face.]

We found this absolutely darling book at the library. Isn’t the cover fantastic? It’s a book of original plays, poems & activities for teachers or program directors Halloween pageants. The best part of the book is that there are neat little pencil notes in the margins. I like to imagine an enthusiastic young teacher in the late 40s casting her class in the play Hocus-Pocus Halloween. Adorable!
