This Vanity Fair cover is in my top 5. I don’t know if I can pick an absolute favourite, but I also love 1995, 1998, 2001, & 2005, all for very different and specific reasons. This issue is special because it’s the first Vanity Fair Hollywood issue that suicideblonde & I bought together as a couple. This was a big deal for us. We’d been separately collecting and adoring the issues and we were anticipating enjoying the issue together. I feel like Ms Leibovitz gave us a special little treat this year because not only does it feature most of our favourite actresses (Julianne, Jennifer, Naomi, Salma, Kirsten, Diane, Lucy, Scarlett & Maggie), but every girl on this cover, even the girls we’re not big fans of, look like gossamer dreams.
We bought the issue the day it came out, at a 7-11. I still remember standing in front of that magazine rack, our mouths pursed into O’s of wonder. We lovingly stroked it, reluctantly handed it over to the cashier for purchase and took turns pressing it close to our bosoms as we traveled home, anticipating the sweet thrill of marveling together in private. We spent hours laying side by side in bed, placing the girls in pairs, explaining to each other why each girl wore each dress, critiquing each pose, continuously changing our mind as to which girl was our favourite, possibly choosing looking at this magazine cover over watching our favourite television shows, eating dinner, or spending time with friends and family, and feeling blessed to be the most devout worshipers at the church of pretty lady.

I love how we managed to take almost the exact same screencap. I’m still reblogging this.

You two are adorable.
