Let’s Talk About Porn: Lynsey G Dives Deep Into the Porn Industry with Consent

I am not a porn consumer.

Okay, that’s a lie. I don’t watch porn for my own pleasure—I promise, I would admit it if I did!—but I have certainly seen porn, so that does indeed make me a porn consumer. However, we as porn consumers of all ages, sexes, sizes, and races are far from eager to admit that we consume porn; notice how I made the excuse that I don’t get off to it even when I admitted that I do consume it? There is a nearly palpable stigma surrounding pornography, and the last thing we want to do is talk about it. I mean, who really wants to talk about what you’re watching when you’re frantically touching yourself all alone in your room?

Lynsey G wants to talk about it. The curator of apexart’s Consent, Lynsey has been reviewing, blogging, and writing about porn since 2007. Described as a “middle-man between porn insiders and consumers” who has “one foot in and one foot out of the adult entertainment industry,” Lynsey seeks to bridge the gap between the ones getting off on screen and the ones getting off in front of the screen, collecting interviews with porn actors, directors, producers, advocates, and consumers for her exhibition. Consent examines topics such as the fantasy of watching porn versus the reality of making porn, the stigma attached to those working in the porn industry, and consumers’ habits and feelings about paying for porn in the age of the internet.
