A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
This edition of the Nightmare series is my very favourite. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the original Nightmare, but my experience with each film is vastly different. I saw the original when I was 7, while staying overnight at a friend’s house. My parents would not have approved, but my friend’s parents were going out for the evening and left us in the safety of her 10 year old sister and the VCR. Of course the movie terrified me, even though I also count it as the birth of my horror adoration. That night, while trying to fall asleep, I could have sworn I saw Freddy lounging in the doorway. I cried & insisted on going home, where I would be safe from Freddy’s horror.
Dream Warriors I welcomed into my life. By the time it was released on video I was allowed to see horror movies & I was infatuated with monsters. I remember being indescribably delighted by this edition, and very excited about the following sequels. And while each movie has entertained me, I believe the 1st and 3rd to be the best all around, and Dream Warriors to be the most fun for me personally.
It really is an outstanding horror movie. It’s got some of the most fantastically gruesome deaths, Patricia Arquette’s film debut, the return of Nancy Thompson & her Dad, played by John Saxon who suicideblonde & I have this strange obsession with, and some fantastic tidbits on Freddy’s back story. Oh, and the theme song, performed by the band Dokken? Top notch.
