Mad Men, episode 313: Shut the Door. Have a Seat.
I feel like maybe Jon Hamm went into an empty room and wept for hours before doing this scene. Just looking at this cap sums up all the conflicting emotions Don is experiencing. You don’t even need to know the context and you can tell that this is a weary, angry, intelligent man. That he’s been crying and plotting and drinking and pondering. His past that he only revisited during quiet moments is constantly with him now, and his lies have been revealed and he’s paying for them. Changes he cannot control are on their way, and he is trying to find a place amongst all those emotions for hope and optimism. He is desperately searching for something that’s honest, something that belongs to him, something that’s real.
