Drew Barrymore and Liv Tyler at the 1999 Oscars
The National Enquirer used to use this picture a lot when they’d feature Drew in their “WHO’S GAY IN HOLLYWOOD” issues.

THIS OSCARS WAS LIKE A BEAUTIFUL DREAM I NEVER WANTED TO END. GIVE PJACKS ALL THE AWARDS *SOB*
The 2004 Oscars were a magical dream come true.
Tilda Swinton, the afternoon after winning her Oscar, February 25th 2008
Operating on just 30 minutes of sleep, Swinton was clearheaded enough to help direct a photo shoot in her suite at the Raffles L’Ermitage Beverly Hills. “Don’t you think Oscar should be more… lounging around?” she asked as she grabbed her statue off the nightstand and placed it beside her in bed. With the smell of Thai takeout permeating her room, Swinton giddily reflected on her victory lap the night before. After celebrating with her Michael Clayton costar George Clooney at the Sunset Tower Hotel, she headed to Prince’s house party. “Stevie Wonder sang ‘Superstition,’ for God’s sake,” she gushed. “It was absolutely fantastic.”

Cate Blanchett & Kate Winslet - Oscars, February 27th 2005
My second favourite red carpet duo after Naomi & Nicole are Cate & Kate. They always seem to find each other to embrace & admire & whisper sweet nothings. I’m not even sure how they know each other, as far as I know they’ve never worked together, but they always seem to find each other on a red carpet or at a show & create these absolutely delightful moments of beautiful lady togetherness. Gratitude, Cate & Kate.

Michelle Williams & Heath Ledger - Oscars, March 5th 2006
I think this is one of the most iconic Oscar images that exists. Michelle in that feminine yet bold canary yellow Vera Wang gown with the classic red lips & soft waves in her hair, she looked so sweet, so ethereal. It’s such a beautiful, natural pose they’re striking & they both look so happy & smitten. It makes my chest ache.

Probably my favourite Oscar gown story is the story of Reese Witherspoon’s vintage Dior gown. She found it during a shopping trip in Paris, tried it on & it fit perfectly. The gown, which once belonged to a Princess, is now owned by Witherspoon. Such a romantic story for a gown! Such a stunning gown! Witherspoon has said that while she’ll never wear the gown again, that her daughter Ava might one day. Ava’s so lucky! She gets to look exactly like Reese Witherspoon & inherit her vintage Dior!

I’M SPEECHLESS! I’D SAY SOMETHING, BUT I’M SPEECHLESS!

Nicole Kidman accepting her Best Actress Oscar for The Hours, March 23rd 2003
This remains my favourite Oscar moment of the past decade. I love when she says Russell Crowe told her not to cry, I love when she turns around, so beautifully overwhelmed, & shows us her elegant neck, her speech was so lovely, sweet & sincere & her win so very well deserved. Perfect. And even more perfect, Nicole draped in that sheer rich black Gaultier gown. Winning awards & looking like a fierce fashion warrior while doing so, that’s my girl!

Kate Winslet - Oscars, March 23rd 1998
Look at sweet young Kate! Kate was nominated this year for her role in Titanic, already her 2nd Oscar nomination! Years later & I’m only just discovering that apparently this Givenchy by Alexander McQueen gown that has made me so happy for over a decade was not celebrated & made an appearance on many a-worst dressed list. It’s cemented in my brain as an important part of Oscar history though because Kate is so curvy, so fantastically busty, so ethereal with her green & gold gown & romantic red curls. I am forever smitten.
