The Beach Boys - Don’t Worry Baby
And if you know how much I loved you
Baby nothing could go wrong with you

The Beach Boys - In My Room
There’s a world where I can go and tell my secrets to
In my room, in my room
In this world I lock out all my worries and my fears
In my room, in my room
Do my dreaming and my scheming, lie awake and pray
Do my crying and my sighing, laugh at yesterday
Now it’s dark and I’m alone but I won’t be afraid
In my room, in my room
This is one of my favourite Beach Boys songs, it’s like a lullaby & I’ve always found it tremendously comforting. In 1990 Brian Wilson wrote:
“I also enjoyed producing ‘In My Room’. There is a story behind this song. When Dennis, Carl and I lived in Hawthorne as kids, we all slept in the same room. One night I sang the song ‘Ivory Tower’ to them and they liked it. Then a couple of weeks later, I proceeded to teach them both how to sing the harmony parts to it. It took them a little while, but they finally learned it. We then sang this song night after night. It brought peace to us. When we recorded ‘In My Room’, there was just Dennis, Carl and me on the first verse…and we sounded just like we did in our bedroom all those nights. This story has more meaning than ever since Dennis’ death.”

The Beach Boys - Wouldn’t it Be Nice
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through

The Beach Boys - Caroline, No
Where did your long hair go?
Where is the girl I used to know?
How could you lose that happy glow?
Oh Caroline, no.
Who took that look away?
I remember how you used to say
You’d never change, but that’s not true.
Oh Caroline, you
Break my heart.
I want to go and cry.
It’s so sad to watch a sweet thing die.
Oh Caroline why?
Could I ever find in you again
Things that made me love you so much then?
Could we ever bring ‘em back once they have gone?
Oh Caroline, no.

The Beach Boys - I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times
Sometimes I feel very sad.
This was the song planning while Roger was straight trippin’ on Mad Men Sunday night. It’s one of my favourite Beach Boys songs - so melancholic!
The lyrics were written by Brian Wilson and Tony Asher about the ruminations on romance and the loss of innocence involved in growing up. Wilson stated in his autobiography that I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times was telling a self-portrait of his troubled psyche and that he was too advanced for his time. Wilson stated “It’s about a guy who was crying out because he thought he was too advanced, and that he’d eventually have to leave people behind.”
