Probably my favourite Oscar gown story is the story of Reese Witherspoon’s vintage Dior gown. She found it during a shopping trip in Paris, tried it on & it fit perfectly. The gown, which once belonged to a Princess, is now owned by Witherspoon. Such a romantic story for a gown! Such a stunning gown! Witherspoon has said that while she’ll never wear the gown again, that her daughter Ava might one day. Ava’s so lucky! She gets to look exactly like Reese Witherspoon & inherit her vintage Dior!

Heath Ledger & Joaquin Phoneix yucking it up at an Oscar after-party, March 5th 2006
Other than the devastating (yes! devastating!) loss of Brokeback Mountain to Crash that year, this ceremony was a perfect celebration of a new generation of Hollywood glamour. So many important performers peopled this show & so many talented actors were nominated & took home awards. It was such a great night to observe too, look at how much fun they’re having!

This movie dominated my world for a really long time & I thought Reese looked like a perfect lady superstar that night. For those of you who have known me & SB for many years you recall how much we believed Reese & Joaquin were going to become a real couple & make beautiful babies & love each other for always in a world where he would help her be more carefree & she would help him be less awkward. Oh, it was a beautiful world they inhabited in our heads! One with just a ridiculous amount of naughty antics. Watching Joaquin watch Reese win is one of my favourite Oscar moments.
